There are two main drugs that people (mostly men) use to prevent baldness occurs. One of them is Rogaine, the other is Propecia. These are the only drugs that are approved by the U.S. Federal Drug Administration (FDA) for treating hair loss. Also are the only drugs that have shown effectiveness against baldness.

Propecia: The new drug on the Block
Propecia (finasteride) is taken in pill form and swallowed once daily. It prevents baldness by inhibiting a hormone called DHT (dihydrotestosterone), which most experts believe cause the majority of hair loss. Rogaine: Old Faithful

Verdict
Most people who have used these two drugs claim that Propecia is the most effective of the two. Even more effective than simply using Propecia, however, is using both Rogaine and Propecia. The combination of the two drugs will provide faster, more lasting results than would be possible otherwise.
